Economy of the Kingdom of God: reciprocity, gift, and truth in the theology of Joseph Ratzinger

Abstract
The contemporary economic paradigm frequently reduces human relationships to exchange, utility, and efficiency. Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI's theological framework of the Kingdom of God offers an alternative paradigm for the examination of relationships. This framework contrasts the concept of salvific oikonomia with the prevailing economic paradigm of the market economy. To understand how the Kingdom of God in Ratzinger's theology offers a hermeneutical key to rethinking economic relations is necessary to examine three fundamental axes. The first is reciprocity as a paradigm of relationships and true freedom. The second is the logic of gift and gratuitousness as principles that found a truly human economy. The third is prudentia as a moral criterion linked to objective knowledge of reality. The present study proposes a review of contemporary economic reductionism and an invitation to discover the scope of the economic sciences from an understanding of the Kingdom of God.
