Abstract
In 1936 Tito Brandsma published an article in which he advocated the introduction of the topic of animal protection into the teaching curriculum. The writing, which is explained by its context, offers the traditional keys to the Catholic position on the status of animals, in dialogue with the ideology of the Third Reich. In this work, Brandsma's writing is studied in its context, in its sources and in its content, and the background keys that the theologian used are extracted; to later enrich it with the proposals of contemporary animal theology.
