Abstract
El artículo pretende reconstruir visual y artísticamente la fábrica contrarreformista de la ilicitana iglesia de San Juan Bautista, junto a los tesoros que ella encerró hasta los fatídicos tiempos de 1936. Palabras clave: San Juan Bautista (Elche. España), Arte, riqueza suntuaria. Asimismo, el artículo hace un estudio del templo actual y las circunstancias histórico-sociales, que favorecen su construcción. Con ello, se ofrecen conclusiones de un estudio histórico-artístico iniciado hace años. Se han presentando muchos problemas, pues son importantes las carencias documentales. A ello se añade la renovaciones en los siglos XVII y XVIII, que apenas se conservan vestigios en la actualidad. Ya que se realizó una renovación completa
hace unos cincuenta años.
Abstract: The article aims to reconstruct the visual and artistically counter-reformation fabric of the Church of St. John the Baptist, along with the treasures of the church which was locked up in the fateful days of 1936. Likewise, this article studies the current church and the historical and social circumstances that favor its construction. It offers conclusions of the historico-artistic study initiated years back. It presents the problems encountered by the previous like the insufficiencies of documents. It accounts the renovations made in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries which only vestiges remain today. Note that a complete renovation took place fifty years ago.
