¿Qué idea de universidad? Reflexiones sobre su identidad a partir del desarrollo histórico What Idea of University? Reflections on its Identity from its Historical Development

Abstract
Abstract: The abundance of universities and their different educational models lead the authors to search for the University’s identity and essential elements. The elements proposed as constitutive of the University are: the community of professors and students, the synthesis of knowledge, integral formation, the contribution to the common good and, in a very special way, the primacy of Truth–searched, found, communicated. All this is shown firstly by an historical analysis of the development of the University from its medieval origins; then by a recasting of the different kinds of universities into “three rival versions”: the introverted university, the extroverted university, and the dialogical university; and finally, by pointing how in all of them, even if not always found at the same level, the element that determines the character of the University is ultimately the amor veritatis.
