Main Article Content
Abstract

The confraternity of Santa Cruz played a role in relation to safeguarding of the relic until today although relatively for a short period of time. During the Middle Ages, the confraternity was not in existence. At the time of its foundation, the institution (Sta Cruz) had existed for more than 250 years as recorded by the Council of the village. The records included the images of the Cross and the cow in its identification label. Until today, the icon has remained as the emblem of Caravaca. Throughout the Middle Ages, all things that were related to the Cross belonged to the Military Order or lay authority of Caravaca, including even the donations sent to the Cross by the devotees.
