Abstract
Esta aportación trata de mostrar la validez histórica del bautismo en la concepción cristiana durante la época del Imperio Romano. Se utilizan múltiples ejemplos sacados de las fuentes principales, que a través de un orden cronológico, muestran una panorámica sobre la concepción cristiana del acto litúrgico de la salvación a través del agua. Es interesante la referencia arqueológica a inscripciones paleocristianas donde se puede observar los apelativos referentes a los niños, infantes o jóvenes que mueren prematuramente, así como la reflexión y pugna de autores cristianos como San Agustín por defender el valor del bautismo frente al pecado original.

Abstract: This contribution tries to show the historical validity of the baptism in the Christian conception during the time of the Roman Empire. Multiple examples are drawn from the main sources, which in a chronological order show a panoramic view of the Christian conception of the liturgical act of salvation through water. It is interesting the archaeological reference to paleocristian inscriptions where you can see the names referring to children, infants or young people who died prematurely, as well as the reflection and struggle of Christian authors like St. Augustine for defending the value of baptism in the face of original sin.
