Abstract
El artículo lleva a cabo un acercamiento a la actividad del mercader José Santiago Gómez, un librero establecido en la ciudad de Murcia a mediados del siglo XVIII. Dada su condición de editor, se abordan los textos impresos a su costa desde 1761 a 1776, las distintas reediciones sacadas al mercado local y nacional y sus características formales. Se han utilizado dos tipos de fuentes de información: archivísticas (protocolos notariales, legajos municipales y libros parroquiales) y bibliográficas (los impresos editados por el librero). Ambas fuentes permiten profundizar en el conocimiento de uno de los nombres que integraban la nómina de mercaderes de libros en la Murcia dieciochesca y sus modos peculiares de actuar dentro de la industria del libro.
Abstract: The article relates the approach of a businessman named José Santiago Gomez, an established bookseller in the city of Murcia in the mid eighteenth century Given his stature as publisher, all printed texts sold from 1761 to 1776, were attributed to him: the various reissues in both local and national markets. As a publisher, his publications used two types of sources: archival (notarial, municipal files and parochial books) and bibliographic (printed matter about lives of men and women issued by the bookseller himself). Using both sources allow a researcher to deepen the knowledge of one of the names that were part of the roster of his books in the Murcia in the 18th century. This article also describes José Santiago Gomez’s peculiar approach in dealing with the book industry.
