Abstract
Abstract: In this paper the foundations of mayorazgos (primogeniture) made by the prebendaries of the Cathedral of Murcia during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are analyzed. One possible explanation lies in the fact that the prebendaries were considered, above all, members of some families who had supported them in their ecclesiastical careers. When they founded mayorazgos returned the support received from family. At the same time, they achieved the perpetuation of lineages and its maintenance. For this reason, the prebendaries occupied a central paper in the transmission of the familiar heritage, acting as redistributors of the wealth since they often helped the most unprotected lines of the lineages.
