The Muslim Quran, uncreated, and the Christian Logos, eternally begotten

Abstract

There is a fairly widespread opinion that Arianism advocates for a Christian theology closer to Islam than the orthodoxy that emerged from the Council of Nicaea. Although there are many reasons for this, as we Will discuss at the beginning, in this article, we attempt to show how the majority resolution of theological discussions during the second and third centuries of the Hegira brings Sunni Islam closer to Nicene Christianity. When Islam was forced to answer the same question that Christianity had asked centuries earlier about the status of the Word of God, it came to the same resolution: the uncreated nature of the Qur'an. In this article, we combine theological and historical methodology to demonstrate this important conclusion for interreligious theological dialogue through a presentation of the history of Islamic debates.
